Are you fed up of single-use, plastic party accessories? Would you rather create a handmade keepsake for your friends, family or customers? These crocheted tiaras are the ideal, reusable accessory for royal role play, cosplay and fancy dress for all ages.

This pattern is most suitable for intermediate crocheters, with design variations to make it more accessible to an experienced beginner and pro tips to challenge a more advanced crocheter. The pattern includes detailed and comprehensive pattern notes including a size guide, stitch guidance, tips and advice to help you, along with plenty of photographs to demonstrate special stitches and techniques.

Included are specific instructions to make three sizes of crown: infant (approx. 6 months - 3 years), child (3-10 years) and teen/adult (10 years +) using a 6mm/J crochet hook and chunky/bulky (category 5) yarn. This pattern also works well with Aran yarn or DK yarn held double, depending on the size of crown you choose to make. As each crown only uses a small amount of yarn, they are a great project to use up partial skeins.

There are also instructions for creating a ‘made-to-measure’ tiara, with any hook size and yarn weight you like.

You have the creative freedom to choose your own colours and fibres and customise the crowns to your liking, with various stitches and embellishments, making them as detailed or as plain as you’d like. The final page of the pattern contains several photographs of different crocheted crowns to inspire you.

The pattern is written in English, using US crochet terms but includes a conversion chart to UK terms, along with abbreviation reminders on each page. It has been expertly tech edited by Karen Hubbard (www.hookedstitchedandglued.com) and tested by a team of crocheters, of varying levels of experience, who all found it easy to follow.

There are several different crochet stitches required in this pattern. While instructions are provided for some of them, it is expected that you will already know how to create the others. The following information gives more detail:

You will need to know (or be able to learn) how to: slipknot, chain stitch, slip stitch, single crochet, half double crochet, treble crochet, create front loop only stitches and work in the round. If you need support with this, there are stitch tutorials for most of these skills in my Instagram ‘Tutorials’ highlight @hook.and.happy or you can find a wealth of in-depth tutorial videos on You Tube.

This pattern gives photographic instructions for how to: join each round, create crossed treble stitches, crab stitches (reverse single crochet), puff stitches, mini-puff stitches, French knots, finish with an invisible join, crochet complete tiaras in 3 different sizes and adapt the pattern so it is made-to-measure or a miniature version, if preferred.

’Pro tips’ include: how to start with a neat edge, how to tighten a treble crochet stitch for a consistent look, how to weave ends in and how to secure a ‘floating’ puff stitch.

Should you wish to buy this pattern, it will be available to download immediately after purchase.
