Knit a mitered square-based bonnet! This one has a pretty solid vintage look, and it’s very cute and easy to knit, with just a little bit of technical sophistication to refine it. The samples shown have long ties, but you can substitute nubs (with or without a snap closure) if preferred.

The smaller sample in earthy gold is Malabrigo Yarn Rastita in Glitter colorway. The larger sample in green is Malabrigo Yarn Arroyo in Immortal.

Materials:

  • 150(170) yards of Malabrigo Yarn Arroyo or similar sportweight yarn
  • 1 16-24” circular needle in US4/3.5mm, or size needed for gauge
  • 2 double-pointed needles for i-cord, in same size as the main circular needle
  • tapestry needle for weaving in ends
  • 2+ removable stitch markers

Gauge:
Gauge is 21 sts and 36 rows over 4”/10cm of welted pattern, worked flat and blocked lightly.

Measurements:
Two sizes, small and medium!
Small is a 7.3”/19cm square, to fit 19-21”/48-53cm head circumferences. It fits the 20” wig form well.
Medium is an 8”/20cm square, to fit 21-22”/53-56cm head circumferences. It also fits the 20” wig form, but is a little roomier, with more of a point.

This style of hat is the same basic construction as Pocket Edition—it’s just finished differently. I’m a little fascinated by that, because the silhouettes are so different and the pixie version is such a classic look. So it’s the same hat with a different appearance.
