Sand Matte
Sand Matte (mat) is a simple mat worked in linen stitch. The pattern is intended as a base pattern that can be used to make all kinds of mats. The method, needles, yarn and yarn consumption are described for a simple coaster for a cup (10x10 cm, size small), teapot (14x14 cm, size medium) or pots and pans (20x20 cm, size large). The two methods also show two different thicknesses of the mat. Both thicknesses are worked using the same needle size, but with yarn either held single or double. The pattern contains instructions for scaling the shape of the mat to exactly the dimensions you want. So you can, for example, make yourself a placemat, doormat or (for the very patient knitter) a rug.
The red cup coasters on the cover photo are knitted in HipKnitShop Hip Wool in the color Very Berry red (size small). Each coaster weighs 7-8 g, which means you get around 6 coasters from one skein. The teapot mat in jute thread in the pictures below is knitted in 2 strands of jute thread (size medium). The green and beige mats are knitted in Sandnes Garn Tykk Line in the colors 3011 Almond White and 9062 Olive Green (small and large sizes). For the mats in size small knitted in Sandnes Tykk Line I used 12 grams per piece. For the large mat in Tykk Line I used 60 grams of yarn. I have also knitted a couple of small mats in leftover yarn from Sandnes Fritidsgarn (not pictured) and for these I used about 8 grams of yarn per piece.
