Scale Mail Slugs
A knitted slug in two sizes, the small using 20m, the large using 65m of chunky yarn. These slugs are armoured, with scales knit directly onto their body with a modified purl stitch (with a video tutorial as well as step-by-step photos for the technique).
The small slug requires 56 small scales, while the large slug require 241.
All my samples are made with small scales from TheRingLord.com (any approx 9/16” by 7/8”leaf shaped scale with 5mm hole should also do)
They are worked in the round with notes throughout suggesting a comfortable split for working with 4 dpns. The face is formed by working some of the stitches as a tube of i-cord, then continuing with the rest of the stitches.
Shaping is achieved with kfb, m1L, m1R, k2tog, skp, and cdd to allow for directional stitches to help neatly define the foot.
This pattern has some overlap with my (scaleless) Slugs, so they’re available in a bundle (past purchases count towards the discount)
The pattern and chart pages are photo-free and can be printed in black and white.
