The hat is cast on and a simple rib worked, before an increase round and reverse stockinette sets up for the lace motif. The lace is worked, followed by a bobble and slipped stitch detail all on a background of reverse stockinette. The crown is shaped with decreases worked in purl before closing at the crown. A pom-pom may be added if desired.

Sea Listening hat may be worked as either a beanie with a fitting crown or slouchy hat with a flatter crown, or to the length you like your hats. The sample is worked in a fingering weight yarn and mohair silk yarn held together, but it could also be worked with one strand of DK weight yarn. It is recommended a needle with a good sharp point is used to help with working some of the stitches.

Sea Listening Hat is part of the Memories group of patterns based on special memories I hold of my childhood. This hat is related to the Sea Listening sweater (out late September 2021). The lace motif symbolises waves and reminds me of being snuggled up at night as a child listening to the sea!
