This hat is based on the traditional Shetland lace pattern, adapted to allow for increase without losing the wavy-lacy look at the top. It is knitted from the top, so as to emphasise the unusual wavy edge.

The pattern looks most dramatic in wool with occasional colour changes, perhaps 7 to 10 times colour changes throughout the hat, but it also works with more frequent colour splashes as well as in a single colour.

The pattersn includes a written guide and an easy-to-follow chart. The pattern is designed to fit a head with a 58 cm circumference, but can be adjusted by 2 cm either way by using a larger or smaller needle size.
