• DESCRIPTION:
The Shell stitch creates a gentle, textured wave appearance. It’s a fairly solid stitch but not dense. There are small openings that give it a gentle, open appearance.

• GAUGE & SIZING:
Gauge (tension) isn’t very important in this project. For reference, my gauge is 3 shells and 1 DC and 8 rows per 4”.
Play around with hook sizes until you find one that makes a fabric you like. This pattern is written to produce a washcloth that is roughly 9 inches by 9 inches.

• ABBREVIATIONS & STITCHES USED:
ch = chain
sk = skip
st = stitch
sp = space
DC = Double crochet
* * = Repeat what is in asterisks the indicated number of times

Special Stitch: Shell = 5 DC in the same stitch.

• MATERIALS:
About 75 yards of Paintbox Yarns Cotton Aran in Raspberry Pink or any #4 cotton or cotton blend.
A 4.0 mm (F) hook
Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
Stitch markers if desired.
