Found only in New Zealand, the undersides of the Silver Fern ( “Ponga” in Maori ) are white or silver & reflect moonlight. The reflected light is an aid to navigating the bush at night. You won’t find me making use of that aid, but it is nice to know nature invented ambient lighting before we did!

The elegant fronds represent strength and enduring power.
The fern is also considered the ‘unofficial plant’ of New Zealand.

Sizes: (Infant, Adult, Large Adult) Adult will fit most children and small adults.
Finished Circumference above brim: approx ( 15.75, 19, 20.5 ) in / ( 40, 48.25, 52 ) cm
Finished Height: approximately ( 6.5, 8, 8.75 ) in / ( 16.5, 20, 22.25 ) cm

Gauge: 20 sts x 24 rows = 4 in / 10 cm in stranded stockinette stitch, blocked
Row Gauge matters on an all-over pattern. PLEASE SWATCH!
If you have too FEW rows per inch: add extra rounds of Corrugated Rib at brim and/or add 2 rounds of MC Knit before starting charts.
If you have too MANY rows per inch: work only 1 or 2 rounds of Corrugated Rib at brim, and/or begin chart on Row 3, 4 or 5 to subtract some height.

Materials: Any worsted yarn that meets gauge will work. Yarns used on samples below.
