Slip the Day Away is a deep beanie or slouchy hat, with a wide brim to keep your ears warm when the cold wind blows. It uses three colours of dk/worsted weight yarn and the pattern is made with slipped stitches, so you only ever have to work with one colour at a time!
The instructions for the pattern stitch and decreases are charted only. The pattern suits an intermediate knitter who is comfortable reading a chart.
You will only need small amounts of the contrast colours, so you can stash dive and use leftovers. Choose three yarns with good contrast to each other for maximum effect.

Gauge: 23 stitches and 15 boxes in slipped stitch pattern in 10 cm (4 inches) on your larger needles before blocking. Differences in gauge will affect the size of the finished hat and your yarn usage.
Sizing: The pattern is written for 2 sizes. Size M suits the average woman’s head. The size M sample was blocked on a balloon inflated to 56 cm (22 inches) which is the same size as the model’s head. Size L suits larger heads up to 61 cm (24 inches) but will also suit smaller heads for a slouchier fit. Height with brim folded: Beanie M/L 20.5/23 cm (8/9 inches); Slouchy M/L 23/25.5 cm (9/10 inches). The sample is a size M which was blocked on a balloon to the same size as the model’s head.
Needle sizes: 3.75mm (US 5) and 4.5mm (US 7) or size required to obtain gauge. Needle size is a recommendation and you may need to change needle size to meet gauge. The pattern can be worked on a short circular, a long circular using magic loop or on dpns. If using a short circular you will need to swap to dpns or magic loop as you work the crown.
Yarn: The pattern uses three colours of dk/light worsted weight yarn around 200 m (220 y) per 100g (3.5oz) For the main colour (MC) allow (100-150 m/110-155y) depending on size and style made. The size M beanie sample used 100m (110 y). For the contrast colours (CC 1 and 2), allow 25-30g of each. Stashdive to find partial balls from your favourite projects.
Other supplies: Yarn needle, 5 (6) stitch markers, tape measure, balloon for blocking (optional).
