The main body of the Snake Snuggle Donut is approx. 7 inches across and 3.5 inches high, with an opening of 3.5 inches, when made with the suggested hook and yarn weight, and is ideal for smaller, thin snakes, like Hognose and young ball pythons. If your snake is larger I suggest starting with a heavier weight yarn and larger hook.
The snake pictured is now nearly 3 feet long and 2 lbs. in weight. He fits very comfortably in a donut I made with this pattern using Bernat Blanket yarn and an 8mm hook.

The pattern calls for Bernat Velvet yarn which is a size 5 bulky yarn and a 6.5mm hook. You are welcome to try other weight yarns and hook sizes but I cannot guarantee the outcome will be the size and shape you want.
With in the pattern I mention use of another Bernat Blanket yarn and 8mm hook that I have used with this pattern with success.
Using larger hook and larger weight yarn will make the donut larger.
