SOS Hat
America, we are in danger. Women and children increasingly bear the greatest cost. I have so many emotions and thoughts about the horrors of what is going on in this country and around the world. Watching rights erode, violence escalate and humanitarian crisis unfold can leave many of us feeling overwhelmed and unsure how to respond
This hat is my response.
The colors loosely reference the U.S. flag, while a subtle SOS is worked into the design using Morse code, representing a universal call for help.
Use any colors that are meaningful to you. High contrast colors work best to allow the code to stand out. Maybe it’s for Ukraine, or Palestine or any other place or peoples that are in distress and need help right now.
When I don’t have words, I wear this hat. It’s a visible act of solidarity, resistance and care. And my way of helping those in distress in this country is to donate $1 from each hat purchased to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), an organization that works to defend civil rights, protect vulnerable communities, and hold power accountable. www.aclu.org.
This hat is worked from the bottom up. It uses slipped stitches and alternating colors to create the mosaic morse code SOS.
