This little scarf is knit at a loose gauge and requires aggressive blocking to show off the spiderling motif, but if you do those things, this project is a fairly easy knit with a rewarding subtle weirdness to it.

You can also, of course, omit the little link fastener (this one includes a button, so the link is not a permanent unmoving feature) and knit this as a regular scarf.

Materials:

  • 250yds of soft fingering-weight wool (main sample shown in Malabrigo Yarn Sock Playa)
  • 1 16” circular needles in US8/5.0mm, or size needed for gauge
  • 2-3 DPNs about 4 sizes down from size needed for main gauge scrap yarn for provisional cast-on
  • crochet hook for provisional cast-on
  • tapestry needle for weaving in ends 1” button in lightweight material

optional/if needed: sewing needle and matching thread to attach button

Gauge:
Gauge is 20 sts and 30 rows over 4”/10cm of garter stitch, worked flat and blocked firmly. The main gauge for this project should be very open and airy; the tabs and loops are knit at a smaller informal gauge for stability. Gauge is important for this scarf.

Measurements:
This long shallow triangle scarf measures 60”/1.5m long and 11”/29cm wide at its widest point.
