Splendid Peacock is the first piece in my Plumage Collection. I’ve always loved peacocks with their elegant gait and stunning colors. Not surprisingly, I began to think that I must knit something peacock-y. Intarsia came to mind as the best knitting technique, though I craved something less pictorial and more impressionistic. So I played around with some variegated yarn and voila! The pattern uses a stockinette repeat of 39 rows plus a seed stitch border and a selvedge edge. Both a color chart and written instructions are included plus plenty of tips on Intarsia yarn management (be not afraid!).

Here are the yarns I used with size 9 (5.5mm) needles:

Knit Picks Chroma Twist Bulky:
(2) skeins Cousteau
(1) skein GogoBoots
(1) skein Lake Front
(1) skein Leaf
(1) skein Pixie
(or other Bulky Weight Yarn, preferably variegated)

I could see Splendid Peacock in an alternate iteration with a completely different color palette. Maybe not so peacock-y but totally fabulous. So feel free to play around. I’d love to see your scarf!
