I have spent many wonderful holidays in the village of Staithes in North Yorkshire and this design is inspired by the textures of the landscape here.

The top and bottom bands of the cowl are two by two rib. From the bottom, there is a band of stocking stitch broken up by three purl rounds getting closer together to represent waves reaching the shore. Each subsequent stitch pattern is separated by three rows of stocking stitch. Next, the sandy beach is a band of moss stitch, which is alternating knit and purl stitches. The stone cottages are depicted by three bands of alternating knit and purl blocks, each block is five stitches wide and four stitches high. This is followed by three rows of a slip stitch and purl pattern which looks like roof tiles. Finally the first band of stocking stitch broken up wave purls rows are reflected to represent cloud banks in the sky. I wanted this to be a quick, cosy and fun knit and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
