This pattern started with my obsession with knitting Scandinavian style stranded Christmas Balls and the arrival of my nephew. I wanted something I could make for each of my nieces and nephews that would be similar and more heirloom quality than the blankets and quilts that were made for them to use and abuse.

Christmas stockings see little use, but in my family are very special with lots of little traditions built around getting them out of storage, when to display them, setting them out Christmas Eve, and opening them Christmas Day.*

This pattern is for a stranded colour work heirloom quality Christmas stocking. It is worked top down and techniques include: knitting in the round, knitted hem, stranded colour work, afterthought heel, Latvian braid, and rounded toe/heel.

The pattern includes: detailed instructions; charts and written instructions for the stranded designs; a summary version with the basic outline for experienced knitters; and an appendix with notes and tips on techniques used, yarn selection and substitution, and yardage used in different yarns.

Each stocking requires 2 skeins of contrasting yarn, 100-115g depending on the yarn and was written for fingering to DK. Gauge is not important as the item is not worn. The pattern can be worked in heavier yarn resulting in a larger stocking.

Pay What Works

Inspired by Francoise Danoy of Aroha Knits I will be using a Pay What Works model for my pattern. I encourage you to check out her patterns for more information.

This model is an effort to both respect and value the worth of the work done by the designer and those involved in producing the pattern and to acknowledge that ours is not an inexpensive pursuit and that finances can be a barrier to engagement and participation.

The Ravelry price is the true price of the pattern. To purchase the pattern at a price point that is more accessible to you the coupon codes below can be used at checkout. The prices indicate the price you will pay, not the discount amount. No coupon code is needed for the base price for the pattern (highest price point).

LadyO1 - $7.50
LadyO2 - $9.00
LadyO3 - $12.00
NO CODE - $15.00

Please note for those located in Europe and Australia taxes are added automatically at checkout.

Physical patterns and kits will soon be available in Cape Breton at the Bobbin Tree and a KAL and/or course are in the works for the fall.
