Add a pop of color to your knitting without adding complexity with this lightweight hat pattern featuring a clean, simple colorwork motif. It’s the perfect project for mini-skeins or leftover yarn, letting you play with color - even if you only have a small amount. You can easily customize the color scheme with 1, 2, or 3 contrast colors to suit your style – or your stash!

The pattern has been thoughtfully prepared for a smooth, enjoyable knitting experience:
* The detailed instructions are user-friendly with stitch counts provided any time there is a change.
• The color pattern is both charted and fully written out.
* The pattern has been tech edited and test knitted.

Sizes: Child (adult S, M, L) with finished circumference: approximately 17 (18.5, 20, 21.5)”/43 (46, 50, 54) cm

Choose a size that is approximately 2 - 3”/5 - 7.5 cm smaller than the actual head circumference of the wearer.

Gauge: 28 sts/ 36 rows to 4” (10 cm) in stockinette stitch.

Yarn: Fingering/ sock weight yarn; the sample was worked with a 100% wool yarn with 420 yards/384 meters to 100 grams.

  • Main color: 40 (45, 50, 55) grams/ 160 (180, 200, 220) yards/ 145 (165, 185, 200) meters
  • Contrast colors: approximately 3 - 4 grams/ 12 - 16 yards/ 12 - 16 meters for each of 4 colors (same for all sizes)

Needles: US 3/3.25 mm and US 2/2.75 mm, or size to obtain gauge plus one US size smaller.
This hat is worked in the round. A 16”/40 cm circular needle will be comfortable for all but the child size, which will need to be worked either on double-pointed needles or a much longer circular needle, if you prefer the Magic Loop method. All sizes will need dpns/Magic Loop as the number of stitches decreases at the crown of the hat.
