Softly, in the morning – a gentle, spiraling song floats out across the land. A Swainson’s Thrush is singing on the farm. To me, this is forever the sound of summer, a song that both greets the day and welcomes the evening.

Swainson is a triangular top-down shawl knit in garter stitch with a lace border. The soft, marled Shetland yarn from SourWood Fiber Farm evokes the flecked browns and creams of the Swainson’s Thrush. Their spiraling song is shown in the gently wavy knitted-on lace border. This shawl is comforting, warm, and beginner-friendly. The size can be changed to either make it larger or smaller, depending on the gauge or amount of stitches you use.

This shawl was created in collaboration with yarn from SourWood Fiber Farm, a Shetland & Leicester sheep farm located in the beautiful blue ridge mountains of North Carolina.
