The Sweet Socks are a basic pair of socks knit top down. They start with the cuffs in 2x2 ribbing, then the leg is worked straight in stockinette stitch until desired length. Short rows are used to form the heel, with the option to make a deep heel modification. The foot is then worked straight until the toe, that is shaped with decreases on each side. Finally, the end of the sock is closed by grafting the remaining stitches together.

The pattern also includes a fingering weight version as a pair of shorties featuring micro stripes and a picot hem at the ankle.

This design can be worked up either with small circular needles, with double pointed needles or magic loop. It is an easy pattern suitable for a first dip into sock knitting.

The pattern has been tested.

The model’s foot is a size EU 39 and wears a sock in size 3 with the deep heel modification.

DK version: Fiesta by Drops in colorway “Herb Garden (print 16)” (75% wool, 25% polyamide, 110m per 50g)

Fingering version: Fabel by Drops in Wheat (uni 121) and Dark Olive (uni 122) (75% wool, 25% polyamide, 205m / 224y per 50g)

The red sample (fingering) is knit in Sisu by Sandnes Garn colorways 4219 and 1002 (80% wool, 20% nylon, 175m / 191 y per 50g) which is slightly thicker than the recommended Fabel and gives a larger gauge. To compensate, I worked a smaller size (size 2 instead of 3) with the suggested needles.

Les Sweet Socks sont des chaussettes tricotées en rond de haut en bas. On commence par la cheville en côtes 2x2, puis on tricote la tige tout droit en jersey jusqu’à la longueur désirée. Le talon est fait avec des rangs raccourcis, avec la possibilité de faire une modification pour accommoder un fort cou de pied. Le pied est ensuite tricoté en jersey jusqu’à atteindre les orteils, où la pointe est formée par des diminutions de chaque côté. Enfin, l’extrémité de la chaussette est fermée avec un remaillage.

Le patron comprend aussi une version fingering sous la forme de sockettes avec des micro rayures et un ourlet avec picots à la cheville.

Ce patron peut être tricoté soit avec des aiguilles mini circulaires, soit des aiguilles double pointe, ou encore des longues aiguilles circulaires avec la technique du Magic loop.

Le patron a été testé.

Le modèle rouge (fingering) est tricoté en Sisu par Sandnes Garn coloris 4219 et 1002 (80% laine, 20% nylon, 175m/50g) qui est légèrement plus épaisse que la Fabel recommandée et donne un échantillon plus grand. J’ai tricoté une taille plus petite (2 au lieu de 3) avec les aiguilles 2.5 mm pour compenser.
