This is a gorgeous beanie for any little princesses or queens out there. It involves a simple seed stitch rib for the band, a seed stitch peak, a stocking stitch crown and a felted I-cord decoration.
It is knitted-in-the-round so you will need a 40cm/16 inch, 3.75mm (US size 5) circular needle and a set of 4 dpns to match.
I suggest a non-itchy yarn for the band such as baby wool (make sure its 8ply/DK weight) or a blend of wool and bamboo or cotton. The peak requires a certain stiffness so wool is a good choice, but there is no need for an expensive fine yarn as it doesn’t touch the face at all. The crown can be wool or a wool blend. Acrylic should be fine. The cord decoration must be feltable wool, as it is knitted I-cord that is then hand felted.
There is some hand sewing involved to attach the cord to the peak.
You will need to pick up and knit stitches.
Instructions are detailed and there are plenty of explanatory photos. Included is a sheet about circular knitting basics as well as techniques and abbreviations used.
Gauge is 22 sts to 10cm or 5 1/2 sts to an inch over stocking stitch (stockingnette).
Lengths are given in metric and imperial units.
Yardage is approximately 262m/286 yards for small version and 325m/ 355 yards for larger size.
