The Arlino Top
https://www.arlyknits.com/patterns/p/the-arlino-top
Skill Level:
Beginner - Intermediate
Techniques used:
Knit flat and in the round
Increasing and decreasing
dividing stitches
Seaming shoulders
Picking up or working neckline stitches
Threading elastic through neckline casing
Construction Overview:
The Arlino Top is worked bottom up.
Begin with a double knitted waist border.
The torso is worked in the round in stockinette stitch.
The work is split for front and back.
Front and back are worked flat separately.
Diagonal shaping creates the sleeve line.
Neckline shaping is introduced.
Shoulders are shaped diagonally and seamed.
Neckline is finished with a folded band.
Garment is blocked.
Elastic thread is woven through the neckline to create soft gathers.
The arm edges are left clean and minimal with no additional border needed.
Yarn
The Arlino Top is designed to shine in yarns that create a soft fabric with beautiful drape, gentle movement, and an elegant fluidity when worn. The silhouette comes to life when worked in fibres that fall naturally rather than hold a rigid structure, allowing the gathered neckline and sweeping gathers of the garment to settle beautifully on the body.
Because of this, Arlino is wonderfully versatile and can be interpreted in many different fibres depending on the look and feel you would like to create. Plant fibres such as linen, bamboo, or cotton blends offer a cool, breathable fabric with graceful movement, making them ideal for warmer seasons. Animal fibres such as merino, alpaca, yak, cashmere, or silk blends can create a softer, more enveloping version with warmth and luxurious drape for year-round wear.
Choose a yarn that feels special to you. This design is intended to adapt beautifully to personal taste, climate, and wardrobe.
Sample
Wolhobby Merino Breeze
60% Merino / 25% Bamboo / 15% Nylon
100 g / 400 m
Colour: Purple (Met Appeltjes)
Amount used: 650m
size: Medium
This sample creates a softer fabric with graceful drape and a gentle halo of movement. The blend offers comfort, elasticity, and a beautifully wearable finish.
Another suggested yarn is BC Garn Lino 100% Linen. I have a sample coming out soon in Black. A size small in this yarn used 600m.
Yarn Substitution Notes
You may substitute with any yarn that creates a soft fabric with drape and movement. Aim for a fabric you enjoy wearing next to the skin, and prioritise how the knitted fabric behaves over fibre content alone.
