This is a pattern for a cozy colourwork lap blanket that’s broken up into 12 bite-sized motifs. The blanket will comfortably fit the laps of one to two people (or a cat/dog). As an added bonus, the blanket also folds up really easy & nice!

You’ll knit each square flat using stockinette stitch and join the pieces to instruction using crochet or whip stitch, and work a trim all around the blanket using crochet.

Difficulty level: Intermediate/Advanced
Knowledge of colourwork knitting methods is required as the pattern does not provide detailed instructions on how to knit colourwork. One out of twelve squares requires basic embroidery. Basic crochet skills are recommended.

The crochet join will make for a neater appearance, but increase the difficulty level of assembly. You will also work a border around the blanket using crochet (if you prefer to knit only, an applied i-cord may be used instead, but I don’t explain that technique in the pattern).

Yarn: 2-ply worsted weight, 100% wool (Briggs & Little Heritage 196m/113g)
200g (2 hanks), 02 Washed white
330g (3 hanks), 74 Scarlet

Substitute with any hardwearing worsted weight yarn with similar yardage, weight, and gauge if you would like.
I used wool yarn for this blanket as I wanted this to be a warm winter blanket, but you can use cotton yarn to make a lighter, summer blanket that will be machine washable (gentle cycle!).
