Saturn is part of The Planets Collection, a collection of shawl patterns inspired by the orchestral suite The Planets by Gustav Holst. This shawl features a lace pattern developed using a system of encoding words into knitting patterns developed by Naomi Parkhurst. In this case, the word time was used to create the lace pattern, as Saturn is The Bringer of Old Age. Saturn was designed to make the most of a set of five mini skeins and one full skein of Sock yarn. The sample was knit with Go To Sock from 29 Bridges Studio.

A Note About Substituting yarn:
Saturn can be knit using just two colors if you like - simply alternate them as you alternate between Sections/Charts A and B (note that you will need at least 460 yards/420 m of Color B so you may need a second skein for this version.) Alternatively, it can be knit with as many colors as you like by alternating a different one for each section. As written, Section/Chart A used about 14g, the transition section on each end used about 5g each, and Section/Chart B used all of the 20g minis. If your minis are smaller, you may compensate by including fewer repeats within Section/Chart B or by casting on fewer stitches. Please note that individual gauge, substituting yarn and/or changing the size of your shawl may affect the yarn amounts needed.
