Theia is a modified drop shoulder sweater with a clean shoulder line meant to be worn with a comfortable ease. It is knitted top down. It has a European shoulder construction with the upper sleeves being worked at the same time as the front and the back more like a set-in-sleeve sweater than a classic drop shoulder sweater. The sleeves are fairly narrow but there is an option to make them more generous. The body is straight, a little short and with the possibility to work modest bust darts to add length to the front.

Theia has a medallion at the upper front, a slipped stitch line in the continuation of its shoulder line and a split hem.

Unlike usual drop shoulder sweaters which have a beautiful shoulder line but have sleeves PU after the front and back have been joined resulting in a perpendicular shape, sometimes only slightly modified by short rows, Thea has sleeves which are worked early on, as the sweater begins to be worked in the round, resulting in a gentle slope making elegant and clean shoulder and sleeve lines.

Please note that the medallion is charted only.

Suggested Yarns

Fable (Aran weight) by West Yorkshire Spinners, Falkland wool, British Alpaca and British mohair - 166 m/182 yards per 100g,
Vidde (Aran weight) by Hillesvåg, Norwegian lambswool and Norsk Pelsullgarn, 200m/ 219 yards per 100g, or
Gilliatt (worsted weight) by De Rerum Natura, 100% merino from Arles (France) and/or Alentejo (Portugal) - 250 m/ 273 yards per 100g.

Or a similar Aran or worsted weight yarn with a fair grip which gives you one of the recommended gauges.

With a gauge of 18 sts over 24 rows (10x10 cm/4x4”): Approx. 730, 810 900, 1000, 1110 1220, 1350 m/798, 886 984, 1093, 1214 1334, 1476 yds.

With a gauge of 18 sts over 26 rows (10x10 cm/4x4”): Approx. 800, 900 1000, 1140, 1250 1380, 1500 m/875, 984 1094, 1247, 1367 1509, 1640 yds.

Check the schematic copied as the last photo/slide carefully to choose your size and bear in mind that if you decide that you add length to the body or width to the sleeves, it will increase your yarn consumption.

Additional requirement for busts darts: approx. 30 m/33 yds to 80 m/87 yds of each yarn, depending on your size.

Sample 1 is worked with Fable - gauge 18 sts over 24 rows - in colour Feather (natural white) in size 4, with the option to add 5 repeats at sleeve increases. It is worn with 23 cm/9.25” of positive ease.
Sample 2 is worked with Gilliatt - gauge 18 sts over 26 rows - in colour Printemps (bright green) in size 3, with bust darts. It is worn with 13 cm/5.25” of positive ease.
Sample 3 is worked with Vidde - gauge 18 sts over 24 rows - in colour strågul (ochre) in size 2, with bust darts. It is worn with 3 cm/1.25” of positive ease (the body is made a little shorter and the sleeves a little longer).

Gauge

18 sts and 24 rows, or 18 sts and 26 rows for a 10 x 10 cm/4 x 4” square in stockinette stitch after wet blocking.

Please note that having one of the gauges indicated above for both stitches and rows is essential to obtain a Theia with the proportions indicated in the schematic below and the yarn usage indicated above.
