When you’re used to fingering-weight yarn, it’s amazing how fast DK-weight socks can fly off the needles! I can easily knit these top-down socks in a matter of hours using DK-weight yarn, and these thick socks are perfect for lounging around on a cold winter’s day. While DK socks are less common, they’re cozy to wear, speedy to work, and worth every stitch!

This is the perfect design for your first pair of socks, as the larger stitches along the heel flap make it easier to “pick up and knit” when rejoining in the round. Simple stockinette means this design will work with almost any DK-weight yarn in your stash … just be sure you have enough yardage. The challenge will be to stop at just one pair—I couldn’t do it! Everyone in your family will want a pair that’s Thick and Quick!
