An interesting example of mittens in one of the traditional West Fjords pattern styles. They have colorful patterned bands at the top and bottom. These are called laufvidarvettlingar, or “leaf mittens,” and were made during one of Halldóra Bjarnadóttir’s competitions. The patterns may be classic, but the choice of color is unusual. The main color is off-white and the contrast colors are black, red, pink, and purple. They are cast on with purple. Typical of mittens from the West Fjords, these have very short ribbed cuffs followed by stranded patterns. Be careful to keep the tension even whether knitting with one color or with two.
