As Matariki sets and rests before rising again in July, it is a time where we reflect on the past year, the people we have lost to Hine Nui te Pō and our own relationships with the taiao.
I wanted to take this time of traditionally lower productivity to have an MKAL that we can wear to greet Matariki as she rises back into the sky and we can make our obsevations about our year to come.

This pōtae is a close fitting mosaic hat. The process is strange but trust it.
Every row is knit twice and, where prompted, the CC is knit on odd rows and MC on even.
There are two decreases to choose from, option tuarua has a small amount of stranded colourwork
Before you know it you’ll be seeing ahi kā, awa, maunga our loved ones that passed and whetū .

A kupu hou list is provided to help you with the reo used.

100% of MKAL funds and 50% of full pattern funds will be donated to build a whare kōkōrangi under the tutelage of Dr Rangi Matamua, to learn traditional Māori astronomy.
