The TV series “Shetland” has brought the beauty of the islands into the living rooms of the world. The sweaters and accessories worn in the series are a source of inspiration for many knitters. In Season 9, the character of Alison (Tosh) McIntosh wore a beautiful cowl made commercially. Inspired by the light and dark patterns in the cowl and the twisted construction, I designed this version using yarns readily available in the United States.

Any fingering weight yarns will work. There are 5 colors used. Colors 1 and 2 should have your highest contrast -- true light and dark. Color 1 needs about 225 yards and Color 2 needs about 200. Colors 3, 4, and 5 can be mid-range accent colors and you need about 60 yards for each.

Pattern includes a chart in color and grayscale. Pattern is customizable to any length and width by changing the number of repeats of the chart.
