The Shoulder Bag, of the Townie Collection
by Pendleton Artistry, is the perfect companion
for shopping days, trips to the library, or relaxing
afternoons in the park. Its mesh design makes it great for sandy beaches or soggy poolsides and its wide straps and ruffled base lend strength for lugging heavy books or devices. It’s ideal for taking projects on the go or even as a daily use purse and the metal clasp inside keeps track of keys and essentials while you’re out and about.

The Townie Shoulder Bag pattern is designed for intermediate to advanced crochet artists using about 550 yards of size 4 medium weight yarn with a 4.0 mm hook. The bag is best crocheted in a 100% cotton yarn that is durable and strong with minimal stretch of the finished stitches. The featured bag was crocheted using “Yarn Bee: Fundamental Cotton” by Hobby Lobby in “Olive” coloration.

Gauge for this piece will influence the overall size of the finished bag. As a reference, the featured work was crocheted at a gauge of 20 stitches by 9 rows of double crochet to make a 4” square. The finished bag measures about 14” wide by 16” in length throughout the body and the straps measure about 20” in length and 1 1/4” wide. After trying several iterations of the bag, this has proven to be the ideal size, but larger or smaller bags can be achieved with larger or smaller gauge. Keep in mind that some stretch will
occur with use and larger bags have a tendency to become too long and difficult to use.

The Townie Shoulder Bag pattern is worked in rounds from the bottom up. In addition to your hook and yarn, you will need the following supplies:
stitch marker
yarn needle
scissors
large metal clasp
