This toy censer is perfect for playing church. It’s just like a real censer, with a top that slides up and down and a little black coal brick that you can take in and out. When I made it, I had parents in mind as well as kids. It’s bell-free, meaning it’s quiet (to preserve your sanity) and it’s less of a choking hazard. If you prefer bells, substitute a bsc (bead single crochet) done with a bell for each bobble.

What you’ll need:

  • D/3.25mm hook
  • 55 yds. worsted weight yarn, for the censer
  • Small amount worsted-weight yarn in black, for the coal
  • Small amount of stuffing
  • Stitch marker
  • Yarn needle
  • Ruler/measuring tape
  • Optional: additional stitch markers and fabric glue

Special Stitches:

  • Bobbles
  • Back post single crochet
