When we look toward the horizon, things seem to get progressively smaller. Inspired by the trails through the nature preserves on Block Island, this stitch pattern evoked the thought of those trails leading out to the ocean. Thus the idea was born. A series of almost invisible decreases create both the shape and illusion reminiscent of looking out over trails leading to the sea.

This cowl is designed to be worn close around the neck and spreading out over the shoulders. To change the size of the cowl you can add or subtract the number of pattern repeats or change needles sizes.

The pattern uses Japanese stitches which have been charted in familiar American symbols. The pattern is both charted and completely written out.

The gauge measured over one pattern repeat is 15 stitches/2” at the lower edge of the cowl. In addition to the yarn, the pattern calls for eight 1/2” buttons.

This pattern is part of the Block Island Knitwear Design Collection 2019, and has been test knit and proofed for errors. If you have any questions regarding this pattern, please do not hesitate to contact me either via the email address on the pattern or via message here on Ravelry.

I hope you enjoy making this cowl as much as I did!
