GENERAL INFORMATION

This elegant crescent-shaped shawl is worked from the top down, and features a stunning lace stitch pattern conceived by the talented Naomi Parkhurst of Gannet Designs. Inspired by the graceful motion captured in the word “Sway,” Parkhurst’s stitch work imbues the shawl with a delicate, organic flow.

Intended to be made with sock weight yarn, although adaptable to other lightweight yarns, this versatile design allows for customization in size through the repetition of its lace motif. So, you can choose whether to knit a small shawl or an expansive statement piece, of course your yarn requirements will vary!

To achieve a gradient I used two strands of lace weight yarn held together and blended across three colours (see below).

The edge of the shawl has a dainty picot beaded bind off, adding a touch of subtle sophistication. To learn how to do the Beaded picot bind off you can see it on YouTube here

MATERIALS
520 m / 569 yds Sock weight yarn or 930 m / 1017 yds lace weight yarn held double.

I used Malabrigo Silkpaca Pink Frost (Colour A) 305 m / 334 yds, Acro Iris (Colour B) 380 m/ 417 yds, Abril (Colour C) 245 m / 268 yds.

Needles and Notions:
3.75 mm (US 5) circular needle, or size required to obtain gauge, minimum 32 inches / 80 cm long.
97 beads (hole big enough for two strands of your yarn). I used Miyuki Triangle beads 5/0 lilac lined grey.
46 stitch markers.
Tapestry needle to sew in ends.

GAUGE
20 sts and 34 rows to 10 cm / 4 inches in pattern, after blocking.
Gauge is not crucial for this project, but variations will affect yardage requirements and final measurements.

SIZE
Wingspan: 165 cm / 66 inches, depth: 45 cm / 18 inches. Measurements taken after blocking.
