Trébol is Spanish for clover.

The Trébol hat uses 2 colors to create an elegant clover design inspired by the shamrocks used on St. Patrick’s Day and in Irish culture. However, it does not need to be associated with just this. Simply change the color of your yarn to have a beautiful spring hat.

The hat is knit bottom up and in the round with the stranded colorwork knitting method.

The pattern is written in US standard terms and includes instructions for 1 size that fits most head circumferences. However, since different brands of worsted yarn can vary in thickness, it also includes notes based on two popular yarns.

It is recommended for intermediate knitters due to long floats that will need to be caught.

SUGGESTED YARN:
Worsted 4 weight yarn like Lion Brand Wool Ease or Malabrigo Rios.

Solid or tonal colors will best showcase the pattern design.

RECOMMENDED NEEDLES:
US 6 / 4mm, 16’’ / 40cm / circular needles.
US 8 / 5mm, 16’’ / 40cm / circular needles.

GAUGE:
There are many different worsted weight yarn options in the market. The two samples shown in this pattern, even though both have been knit with worsted weight yarn, differ from each other. To help make your hat similar to these samples, both gauges are included below.

Wool Ease sample:
18 stitches x 17 rounds in 4” in colorwork pattern on bigger needle after blocking.

Malabrigo Rios sample:
21 stitches x 22 rounds in 4” in colorwork pattern on bigger needle after blocking.

YARDAGE:
Main Color: 82 yards / 75m
Contrast Color: 36 yards / 33m
