Trenza Handbag
The Trenza handbag is a small purse that takes inspiration from those big and spacious wicker or rattan totes used to carry groceries or towels to the beach. This version is created to carry your essentials or your small craft project.
The pattern is written in US standard terms.
It is recommended for advanced beginner crocheters.
YARN:
Bulky (CYC 5) weight yarn. Sample uses Juta by DHG in color Island: 75% jute, 20% nylon and 5% cotton. Other yarn or material can be used as long as you meet the gauge below, though a thinner or softer yarn may affect the structure of the finished bag. See Stiffening and Blocking at the end for guidance on how to make your bag maintain its shape.
YARDAGE:
231 yd/212 m
MATERIALS:
J/10 - 6 mm hook for the base and body, or size needed to achieve gauge.
I/9 - 5.5 mm hook for border and handles, or size 0.5 mm smaller than the one used to meet gauge.
Stitch markers.
Tapestry needle.
Scissors.
GAUGE:
12 stitches x 9 rounds = 4”x4” / 10 cm x 10 cm in hdc worked flat.
Gauge is not very important for a bag but any changes to this will affect the quantity of yarn needed and the final dimensions of the bag.
Video tutorials and photos for special techniques and stitches used are included in the pattern.
