„The road of life twists and turns and no two directions are ever the same. Yet our lessons come from the journey, not the destination.”
Don Williams Jr. NOVELIST, POET

My inspiration for this pattern and its name come from my current stage of life. Enjoing every single moment of every single day and feeling happiness. I don’t believe in coincidences. I believe there is a divine reason behind everything that happens to us, because it is meant for us. This hat is the first design in my „Turning roads“ series, with many more design to come!

Turning Roads hat is worked in the round from the bottom up, starting with casting on and set up rounds, continuing with the body part and ending with the crown. Two-color brioche is unique as it knits up into a gorgeous reversible fabric, either side of which can be worn as the outside, creating two different hats.

This beanie is an average adult size version - if you want a shorter or bigger size – do more or fewer sections, more rounds up (brioche plain rounds up between pattern repeats) or use larger needles

YARN:
MC Yarn: Drops Lima (DK, 65% wool, 35% alpaca, 50gr / 1.76oz – 100m / 109yd), colorway Black, 8903
CC Yarn – Drops Lima (DK, 65% wool, 35% alpaca, 50gr / 1.76oz – 100m / 109yd), colorway Off White, 0100,
or use any other DK weight yarn.

YARN CONSUMPTION: 50gr / 1.76oz of each color, MC and CC. My beanie weighs exactly
100 gr / 3.5oz (with pom pom).

NEEDLES: 40cm (16”) circular needle or DPNs (double pointed needles) in 3.00 mm (US 2 ½) for pattern.

SKILL LEVEL: This pattern is ideal for an adventurous beginner.

TECHNIQUES USED: Two - color brioche. Knitting and brioche stitch in the round, knitting, purling, brioche decreases/increases (brLsl dec, brRsl dec, br4st dec, brk1, brp1, sl1yo).

FINISHED SIZE: Hats shown have a 57cm / 22.5“ head circumference, which will fit an average woman’s head.

Depth – 25 cm (10“)
Circ – 46 cm (18“) Fits head approx. 57cm (22.5“)
Measurements taken unblocked.

OTHER TOOLS: Tapestry needle; scissors; if needed, a round counter and stitch marker for marking the beginning of the round.

GAUGE: 22 sts x 25 rows = 10cm (4“) in two-color brioche stitch (using 3.00 mm (US 2 ½) needles).
Needle sizes are recommendations only. Always use needle size necessary to achieve given gauge (to save your time).
My personal knitting tension is tight. If yours isn’t, consider using perhaps 2.50mm (US 1 ½) for the first few rounds.

And thank you again my dear test knitters. Without you, my testing guys, this pattern isn’t here ….
