γεωργός
γεωργός: Gr., singular masculine nominative noun, meaning, “Farmer”.
γεωργός is a simple textured shawlette, reminiscent of ploughed and fallow farmlands. It starts with a combined provisional and garter tab cast on, and then works downwards and outwards in offset textured stripes of stockinette, garter, and reverse stockinette. It is finished with a garter stitch border and a stretchy bindoff.
The shawl body is easily adjustable with the addition or subtraction of pattern repeats, and can be as small or large as the knitter wishes.
MATERIALS:
You will need at least 400-500 meters for a small shawl; more or less may be required, depending on the yarn weight used, and how large the shawl is intended to be. The sample shawl used 400 meters of 8 ply.
NEEDLES:
Use a needle size appropriate to the yarn; 5 millimetre needles were used for the body of the sample shawl, and 7s were used for the bind off.
GAUGE: 20 st by 30 rows = 10 centimeters/4 inches
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: 136 cm x 45.5 cm (your mileage may vary)
