This pattern has been created through Knit for Wildlife’s “Knitters in Residence”. Exploring the global decline of seabirds through the remarkable story of Vega World Heritage. A unique symbiosis between people and eiders.

The colour proportions of the wrap are based on the duration of the audio recordings used in the design. Of the total composition, 60% corresponds to eider duck sounds and 40% corresponds to human voices.

This wrap is worked, in almost all rows, with two strands of yarn held together, as specified in the instructions. This technique creates a gradual interplay of colour and texture that is layered over a surface structure of pleating. These pleats are formed through a sequence of worked stitches that are later picked up to create ridges across the fabric.

Needles: 3.5mm/US #4 needles for working flat (straight or short circular as you prefer)

Yarn A: Atelier Perluette - Plume d’ été (70% Mohair, 30% Silk; 850m per 100g cone)
A1 color Etoile de mer; 255m/30g
A2 color Rosier; 85m/10g

Yarn B: Atelier Perluette - Soupir (100% Wild silk; 850m per 100g cone)
B1 color Midnight; 255m/30g
B2 color Écorce; 170m/20g
B3 color Trèfle; 85m/10g

Yarn C: Atelier Perluette - Possibilité (100% Linen; 1410m per 100g cone)
C1 color Peacock; 282m/20g
C2 color Merlot; 282m/20g
C3 color Artichoke; 282m/20g

Note: Yarns A, B, and C have different fiber compositions, which create distinct textures.

You may substitute them (see the Yarn substitutions section of this pattern), but to preserve the color gradient, please ensure that:
A1, B1, and C1 are different shades of the same color.
A2, B2 and C2 are different shades of a second color.
B3, and C3 are different shades of a third color.
This variation in tone is essential for achieving the intended gradient effect.

Gauge: 16 sts / 27 rows = 10cm / 4 inches square in stockinette stitch using 3.5mm/US #4 needles
