The Vikkelda vest is inspired by the Hammerfest sweater from Norlender. On a group outing to gather inspiration for the Strikkekraft Norwegian knitting book, Aleks was inspired by the striking stripe pattern of the Hammerfest sweater. This stripe pattern has been reimagined with the use of Estonian knitting techniques blending Norwegian and Estonian knitting styles.

The small flecks of contrasting colour breaking up the vertical stripe pattern are knitted using a style of Estonian braid called a Ruhnu vits, a variation on a vikkel lateral braid, that adds texture and dimension to the original timeless pattern and horizontal stripe.

Originally published in Strikkekraft book in Norwegian.

PATTERN NOTES
This colourwork vest is knit seamlessly in the round from the bottom up with the use of steeking.

The body of the vest is worked in a striped all over colourwork pattern with an Estonian braid called a Ruhnu vits braid, a variation on a vikkel lateral braid, that is worked in two colours. The braid is worked on a smaller needle size compared to the colourwork pattern as the tension of the braid is looser. You will change needle sizes to work the braid
and colourwork pattern.

Stitches for the underarm are bound-off and additional stitches are cast on for steeks for each armhole opening. Stitches are also bound-off for the neck and additional stitches
cast on for a steek at the neck to allow for crew neck shaping.

The hem is worked in a 2x1 rib pattern while the neck band and armhole bands or edging are worked in a 1x1 rib in C4.

Norwegian
Dei valde fargar i lag då designarane besøkte Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk.
