Twilight falls and lanterns glow,
Through the vines we wander, slow,
Autumn’s magic softly found
Spells of harvest all around.

Inspired by a trip to the pumpkin patch on a chilly Autumnal afternoon, the focus of these socks is the whimsical layered cuff. There is no sewing involved to join the layers together, just knitting. Pumpkins and their curling vines delicately sit at the cuff moving into a basket weave pattern down the rest of the sock. The final details are an eye of partridge heel and a rounded toe, two of my favourite elements for a well fitting sock. I used a vintage inspired colour palette for my socks but they would look wonderful in classic, bright Halloween-y colours, or how about a speckle or self-striping yarn for the ‘basket’ part of the sock. I can’t wait to see what colours you use for this playful design.

S (M, L) the sizes are measured on leg and foot circumference as the length of the foot is adjustable

Finished Measurements

Leg length 5cm / 2” from the cuff to the start of the heel

Leg and foot circumference 15cm / 6” (18cm / 7”, 20cm / 8”)

Yarn

You will need approximately 50g (50g, 60g) of fingering weight yarn for your main colour (mc) and 10g of fingering weight yarn in two contrasting colours.

I used Lay Family Yarn sock yarn. I used Dusk (purple) for the main colour, 94 (green) for CC1 and 88 (orange) for CC2.

Needles

Two sets of 2.25mm needles for knitting a small circumference in the round or size needed to obtain gauge.

A set 2.75mm needles which will be used to knit the pumpkins and to knit the layers together.
