Launching the weekend before International Women’s Day on Monday 8th March 2021, and just ahead of Mothering Sunday (UK), with enough time to knock out one as a present if needs be, visit my Instagram (link at bottom) for info on how to get this pattern for free on its launch weekend.

My W-A-L-K Hat has been a popular knit for the last few years as it is so versatile and you can really make it look incredibly different just by changing the yarn you use. Well, I took the pattern and gave it a bit of a twist. This hat has the simplicity of W.A.L.K. with a beautiful crown inspired by Danny’s Hat. Both are pretty patterns in their own rights but to me they were just calling out to be combined.

This pattern is written in one size for adults and is worked in the round. The ribbing design allows it to fit most head sizes as it has a lot of give. It could easily be adjusted at the cast on stage to fit a smaller or larger head - notes for this are in the pattern.

The hat has options to make a double thickness brim which gives a lovely edge and makes it very comfy to wear. However, if you prefer a folded brim onto the outside of the hat, there are instructions for that too! In my mustard sample, I omitted the brim altogether, again, there’s instructions for that in the pattern.

A useful video showing how to make a double brim if you work better by seeing rather than reading can be found on YouTube here. I am in no way affiliated with it but think it explains it nicely.

Yarn:
This pattern is perfect for using up stash/leftovers. Go wild with your stripes design. You can either work with an Aran yarn held single (approx. 150 - 180m) or a DK weight yarn held double throughout the pattern (approx. 300 - 375m).

Why not pick some DK weight leftovers and combine them to make bold stripes, or hold 2 different colour strands together and create a marled effect? Your only restriction is your imagination!

Needles:
Pattern calls for 6mm circular needles or dpns but please note that I am known to be a tight knitter and you may need to change your needles to achieve gauge. The design is so stretchy that there is a lot of room for manoeuvre within the given gauge.

Gauge:
24sts x 27 rows = 10cm/4inches in 1x1 rib.

Finished measurements:
40cm - To fit a head circumference of 45-56cm 17.75-22 in

Notions:
Stitch marker
Darning needle
