The Wayworth cowl was inspired by hand woven fabrics and twill weave patterns, which naturally create a diamond shape. Its mosaic knit texture and diamond wrap stitches form a fabric reminiscent of diamondback snake skin. Using a fingering or sport weight yarn makes the cowl light and drapey, but still warming. I recommend playing with different color combination ideas, especially with color fading yarn or your own hand spun, which will be beautifully showcased as a contrast color used in the diamonds.

This cowl is worked flat from the bottom up in a diagonal fashion. This fabric is all over mosaic knitting - meaning you are only working with one strand of yarn per row. It is also designed with very minimal purling and clean, easy to knit i-cord edgings. This pattern is suitable for any knitter that can read charts and make increases and decreases.

Yarn

  • A lofty fingering or sport weight yarn in two different colors.
  • The sample uses Honer Och Eir - Nutiden: 100% Wool. Approximately 60g needed for main color (Luckra colorway was used) and 50g needed for contrast color (Gyllengra colorway was used).
  • If using a spun sport weight yarn, you should allot 100g of your desired main color (MC) and 100g of your desired contrast color (CC).

Needles

  • US 4 / 3.5 mm straight or circular needles for main fabric.
  • US 6 / 4 mm straight or circular needles for icord cast-on.
  • Swatch to determine your gauge, adjust your needle size if necessary to match called for gauge. Needle size above is a suggestion.
