Come, join in the fun of a design that evokes experiences over time. The concept of this shawl has been swirling around in my head for a while, but a recent trip to a place where I spent my early years gave me the theme. Various stitch patterns and techniques are used to carry this out. Some will be familiar, and some may be new. The pattern includes both written and charted instructions.

“Wheels of Time” is a half-pi shawl with shaping based on Elizabeth Zimmermann’s Pi Shawl. Pattern is suggested for intermediate lace knitters with a sense of adventure. Beginning lace knitters will have the opportunity to learn some fun lace stitches while receiving lots of support in the MKAL thread. More advanced knitters will find this a pleasing and fun piece to knit.

Dive into your stash or find some yarn from your favorite brand or indie dyer. (Of course, new yarn is perfectly fine, too!) This is a great pattern for using colors that coordinate but also contrast.

Yarn requirements: Two different colors of fingering weight are used.

  1. Color A: 375 - 430 yards of a speckled, tonal or variegated
  2. Color B: 460-500 yards of a solid or tonal in fingering weight that has high contrast with the first yarn. See photos at the side for some examples.

Beads are optional. As designed, approximately 320 size 6/0 seed beads are used.

A bonus pattern is included as part of the MKAL. Kitchen cotton and appropriate sized needles are suggested for this piece.

This pattern has been test knit by stlorenz, quilterlis, and sondomn. Thank you so much to each of you for all your input and comments which helped me make this a better pattern.
