White Swans are serene and elegant yet also strong and feisty, the Audrey Hepburn of birds. Translated into fashion, I envisioned an elegant capelet that one could throw over a black dress yet would be casual enough to wear with a pair of slacks. Knit side to side in a luxuriously cozy yet lightweight Alpaca yarn, the White Swan Capelet mixes a stretchable garter stitch pattern with horizontal ribbing, a plait cable, and a cowl neckline. Because of the panel construction, it is easy to stop, pin the seams together with removable stitch holders and try on for size. And, of course, it goes without saying that despite my tribute to swans, this pattern would work in any color under the rainbow.
