Windspinner Breakaway
This is a written pattern for a windspinner. A few pictures are included to show how it should look like.
Two versions are included in this free download: a pattern for a smaller version and an additional pattern for the wider version.
This windspinner is based on the Breakaway Crochet technique, made up by Lisa Hounshell. All credits for this technique go to her.
She made several videos to explain this technique and to show projects using this technique, see her YouTube channel: Breakaway Crochet.
A link to one of her video’s showing the basics of the technique is included in the pattern.
For this windspinner I used acrylic yarn, Stylecraft Special dk or similar, which is about 300 meter/328 yards per 100 gram. I used hooksize 3.0 and also hooksize 2.5 for the wider version.
I needed about 27 meter/ 30 yards of yarn for the smaller version,
81 meters/ 89 yards for the wider version.
My finished (smaller) windspinner was about 29 cm/ 11.4 inches tall, the wider version was 34 cm/ 13.4 inches.
The level is intermediate, though it’s doable for advanced beginners if the technique of the breakaway circle/wheel is understood.
Stitches and (US-) terms used:
- breakaway circle (see YouTube for a good explanation)
- ch = chainstitch
- slst = slipstitch
- sc = single crochet
