Materials
Hand-dyed mulberry silk by Thelma Steimann — a super-soft, luxurious yarn with a light, airy feel and a natural shine. Approx. 400 m / 100 g per skein.
Quantity: 1 (1) 2 (2) 2 (2) 2 (2) skeins
Circular needles 3 mm, 40 or 60 cm length, for the body
2 × double-pointed needles (DPNs) 3 mm for straps (optional)
Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
Stitch markers
2 × holding cords for resting stitches
Gauge (Tension Swatch)
Before beginning, check your tension by making a gauge swatch.
Cast on 27 sts and knit 38 rows in k 3, p 3 rib with 3 mm needles. Wash and block the swatch for a 10 × 10 cm sample. Adjust needle size to achieve correct gauge.
Good to know
The top is worked bottom-up in the round, using 3 × 3 rib throughout. Shaping is done with decreases and increases. Once the body is complete, work is divided into front and back. Each side is worked with rib then joined at the shoulders using mattress stitch.
The yarn quantities given are approximate and based on average usage. Adjustments to length or width will affect yarn requirements.
