This cowl is a great first project for two color Brioche knitting.

The cowl starts with a simple basic Brioche technique.
As you go, you will add Brioche decreasing and increasing which creates interesting shapes and looks.
Two-color Brioche is a lot easier when you knit in the round.
Once you understand the basic Brioche stitch and the concept…. you will be ready for the next project!

I have added “Beginner Brioche Cowl” pattern. If you feel you would like to start with more basic Brioche stitches. This is the right pattern. This pattern includes step by step photo tutorials.

YARN
If this is your first Brioche project, I strongly recommend using Tosh Vintage. Loosely plied or single ply yarn would be more challenging to work with Brioche stitch.

The yardage above is a total of two colors.

  • MC (main color) / light blue - 85 yards
  • CC (contrasting color) / dark blue - 75 yards

Some Brioche patterns use LC (light color) or DC (dark color), but this cowl looks good to use either color for MC or CC.

NEEDLES
Brioche works best with one or two size smaller needles.

ERRATA
If your pattern is purchased before July 2016, please change Instruction #5- Inc round
