Notes

June 16, 2021
I’ll be using the remaining leftovers after making the “ADVENTurous Wrap” and “ADVENTuring Cowl”. I’ve got a little bit of January, February, November, and December mini skeins to work with. This calls for a small shawl project. I will start with February, January, December, and then maybe November.

I had two challenges to go through. First, I had to figure out WHEN to add the new skein of yarn. At first, I let it slide, adding the new color after the old color runs out. But then I ran into January’s mini skeins that had one solid color. It was time to alternate colors ever other row. One thing I learned from the Adventrous Wrap, even though each color fades into each other, I still had to mix the two in every other row to make the fade look more believable.

Second, I had to figure out WHERE to change yarns. Since the design was being done on the wrong side of the pattern, I had to change yarns on that side. It got annoying switching yarns every other row while making the edges neat. I noticed I could start the switch right after doing the braid section. I got to hold the yarn double to knit the ends more easily in the k1p1 section and I would twist the non-working yarn up the ladder of rows. I was able to hide the yarn switching with ease.

I continued knitting until it was time to use November’s mini skeins. With the incoming oranges and browns from group, I felt it was best to stop at December’s and keep its blue and teal shades. I have to weave in the ends of the section where I started the new yarn at the edge of the shawl. It was really hard weaving behind the lace work of the spike teeth and the cable work. I was very glad I changed my strategy later, where ends were already knitted in and I only had to trim a very small tail.
