Notes

8th August 2020
I can’t believe it’s finished! After 5 years! I really let it sit in the cupboard for a very long time, now made a concerted effort to finish.
So, notes…
I followed Hazel Tindale’s method and picked one stitch per row along the front steeks, for the bands, but didn’t reduce the numbers in the first row. I’m a tight corrugated rib knitted anyway.
I ignored Meg Swanson’s good advice and did the whole rib band in one hit. Meg suggested I do the fronts and neck in one go, then add the waist as I wanted it twice as long.
I thought I’d give it a try in one go, so I did the waist, broke off yarn, started again and did a second row. Then turned with a double increase and ribbed up the front, double increase to go around the neck and the same for the other front… Then turned to do the waist for the third time, and on to go all the way around again. Lastly broke off yarn and did another waist. That is, for each row of front and neck banding I did 2 rows of waist.
I had to pick up a couple of stitches to cover it.
You can see in the pictures that I ought to have taken Meg’s advice! It’s a bit wonky, but I’m very happy with it anyway and doubt I’ll notice it after a bit.
The ribbon was in my stash, from at least 20 years ago. Vintage ribbon that is so perfect I couldn’t believe it. And with only a few centimeters spare!
So, the original pattern was to be a jumper, but it was a bit small so I steeked it to become a cardigan, thus making it both bigger and oddly proportioned.
I haven’t tried it on yet but it looks ok.
12th April 2020
I’ve just finished all of my sewing in and grafted under the arms, then pressed. Now I’m about to steek the front and turn it into a cardigan. Bit frightened.
13th February 2020
Well, I’ve just picked it up again and am about to join the sleeves together with the body and start the yoke.
I’ve gone to fizzy colours. Sorbet…

Onto the sleeves now. I’m gonna try Magic Loop, rather than keeping on with the DPN’s, doing Fair Isle on DPN’s is rather tedious and I’m rubbish with the tension.
Wish me luck, and thanks to Jo, and Dr YouTube.

Charging into it. I’m trying to be relaxed about the colours and let it happen a bit… sort of. I might embroider that fake knit stitch over some of the darker purple there in the pic? Mebbe.
Adding a lot of mohair. And I just purchased a few more yellows from Australian Tapestry Workshop, so I can tone it down for a few pattern repeats. Keeping the pinks and greens, pretty well.
I tried it on and it’s Owwwkaaay, but then the Christmas pudding’s taken a toll. Back to work soon, and walking. I’ve had a crafty holiday (loads of sitting).
I’m fairly sure (100%) I’ll steek and make it a cardigan, which will be my favourite all time cardigan. Apart from the next-in-line Paperdolls cardigan.

New Years Day!
Working hard on this jumper. Fretting over colours… but enjoying myself. If it’s too small at all, then it’s fasting here I come. I think it will work.
13 December 2015
I’ve just timed myself doing 2 rows… 20 minutes a row! I got through 1 row much faster, but by the time I picked out and started a new colour (each row)… Hmmm, still feels wrong. I’ll check.
I love stranded work, but it’s tiring and I (for one) can’t just go and go all evening. Love it though.
1st December 2015
Starting again. Two reasons: One is that the shape of Annaleise wasn’t working in the stranded. The other is that the piece was lost via a bizarre theft-turned-if-you-don’t-pay-for-it-there’ll-be-police-sale (long story) and then the said offender left it in a taxi. Very Long Story. The taxi driver probably wanted the money in the bag, so had to ditch the knitting. Anyway, it’s gone.
So, one door shuts etc. And now I’m starting again using Kate Daveis’s Bluebells as the form.
Wish me luck! I’m actually busting to get started on the knitting. Just working out my chart at the mo.

Note to self: bottom up, go through same colours as before, at bust fade pinks and greens quite a lot. Still have very bright central row, ie yellow/orange with red +’s. brighter again at shoulder. Incorporate initials at nape, as in fair isle vest.

Each back and foreground colour needs to look good, not just overall, but with the colours it contrasts.
Don’t get too weak in the effort to go a bit pastel.
Stay in the range already decided rather than trying too hard to be changing things all of the bleeping time! Use the same however-many yarns if it’s really working.
