Notes

when I had finished my first one, I immediately wanted to cast on for another, and I warn you that this can be an addictive knit!.. “just one more point! I wonder what the next color will look like” … 8)

I’m sticking with the same modifictions:

1: to get a nice edge, I added one stitch to the cast on and purl the first and last stitch of every row, as described here.

2: as Knitree: after binding off each point, I am knitting into the back loop of the next stitch, in order to tighten it up (by giving it a little twist) and again, avoiding loose stitches on the edge.

3: from the third 8th row on, I’ve done samanjanpgh’s lacey row.

I bought this yarn despite a friend telling me she had bad experiences with it - echoed in the comments here on ravelry - and even the seller confirming that she wouldn’t make something “as nice” with this yarn. I bought it anyway, because I was away from my stash and officially very much on a yarn diet, but since it was part of the Drops-Sockalicious sale, I had an excuse from the self inflicted embargo 8) Also, Delight is not only cheaper than many other pretty alternatves, but also has the same meterage as the original from Wollmeise. Last but not least, I so far love the long color changes more than I disklike the quality of the yarn …

I’ll see if I go for the pointed bind-off modification that others have suggested this time.

When I met up with my above mentioned friend SE000030 she pointed out to me that I might have gotten a nicer result if I had picked thicker needles. I’m generally a loose knitter (at least on the thin side of the needle-size spectrum) so I went with the 2,5mm suggested on the yarn label. This was however a bit of a mistake, as my friend seem to have been right in thinking she had learned somewhere that you should go up in needle size for (at least lace) scarves, as they say here. After she mentioned it, I haven’t been able to skake that it probably would have looked better with this scarf too, but since I had already almost finished the first skein thinking it looked pretty enough (thanks to the colors) I couldn’t be bothered to rip it out …

When I had finished the original 42 Hitchhiker points, I had about half a skein leift, which confirms I could have gone up quite a bit in needle size. However, as I was happy with the size I decided to bind off instead of finishing the yarn. Despite my yarn dis above, I could imagine making another modified Hitchkiker with this yarn and my cubic 4mm needles one day … =)
