Knitting: Beanie, Toque
This hat was inspired by a 1960s knit helmet hat. When I couldn’t find the pattern, I improvised my own version. Hat is knit in the round with the brim knit flat and sewn on. Uses worsted weight yarn and US size 10 16” circular needles and dpns.

PLEASE READ ERRATA There is an error in the pattern which will result in a flat doily shape vs a hat. Please read the comments on this pattern page for more info on how to get the hat pictured. :)

I was very much inspired by the 1930s Schiaparelli trompe l’oeil designs when I created this design so I decided to name it The Volstead after the Volstead Act which helped establish prohibition here in the United States from 1920-1933. The pattern uses fingering weight yarn and German short rows to create the wing-like shaping.

This is the second hat I’ve designed using vintage 1920s/1930s cloches as inspiration. sitting pretty is the perfect hat for drinking tea on a cold winter morning!
Knitting: Cloche Hat
I named this asymmetrical cloche “canceled stamp” after the 1920s term for a wallflower. I think the shape of the hat and the shade of blue yarn are perfect for hiding behind.

Errata: For the line in the pattern reading: “On the next round, kfb of every 10th stitch as before for a total of 110 stitches.”, simply increase evenly on this round to a total of 110 stitches before continuing on with the hat.

The lace pattern for this hat reminds me of artichokes, hence the name. I was eating them frequently when I designed this hat but I can’t be sure if they inspired the hat or the hat inspired the temporary food obsession? Either way this hat knits up quickly with an easy lace pattern and nice texture.

I live in New York City (Astoria!!) and am always listening to music on my (rather large) headphones but when it gets cold outside I usually have to sacrifice audio quality (read: use ear buds) for some warmth.

Crochet: Softies - Other
These are two of my favorite ATHF characters! second only to Meatwad and Hand Banana ;) crocheted flat in two pieces and sewn around the edges. I only stuffed them minimally to keep them as 2D as possible.

these cute little guys are pretty quick and easy to work up in whatever colors you would like! i used some stash worsted that i had dyed using tea which looked very mushroom-y. these would make adorable little ornaments, pet toys, or key chains!
