I wanted to create a design that a knitter new to stranded colour work would not find too intimidating or daunting. I decided a little bit of colour work just after the toe would be perfect (okay, so I repeated the colour work before the cuff – I couldn’t help myself).

This design reminds me of the tender tendrils that so many plants have - the scrumptious and crisp snow peas, the juicy and delicious grapes from the vines and many, many other plants.

These socks are inspired by my memory of growing up in a farm house which had a pressed tin ceiling. While quite simple in their design, to my young eyes, these ceilings were ornate, beautiful and intriguing.

The pattern features columns, of what to me look like seed leaves, in particular spinach seed leaves.

This design reminds me of primary school art class where on a sheet of paper we made blocks of colours with crayons, then coloured over the top with black crayon. We then scratched off some of the black crayon to reveal the colours hidden below. Did you, or do you remember doing this?

Inspired by “The Weather and the Window” episode from the British sitcom, The Vicar of Dibley, where a storm in Dibley causes a tree branch to crash through one of the church windows. Worked toe up with a heel flap and gusset, these colour work socks depict how the replacement window, when unveiled, reveals a stunning view of nature.
